Kōloa Kauaʻi Coffee Rum (34% ABV)
A coffee rum from Kōloa Rum Company on Kauaʻi, Hawaiʻi — a collaboration with Kauaʻi Coffee Company, blending Hawaiian rum production with locally grown coffee. Distilled twice in a vintage 1,210-gallon steam-powered copper pot still from pure cane sugar, and cut with filtered water from Mount Waiʻaleʻale. The coffee integration delivers an intensely rich, opaque, espresso-dark spirit with genuine coffee particulate — this pours and presents like a crafted espresso cocktail rather than a flavoured rum.
Tasting notes: Freshly ground Arabica and Robusta on the nose, with molasses, dark chocolate and a tropical lilikoi (passionfruit) undertone. The palate opens with robust espresso balanced by white cane sugar sweetness, then develops into a dry finish of light vanilla, chocolate and lingering coffee character. Subsequent sips reveal tropical fruit, hazelnut and stone fruit complexity. The lower ABV (34%) is a deliberate choice — it allows the coffee flavour to express fully without alcohol heat masking the nuance.
