Andersen Winery Elmsfeuer 2024 (10% ABV · Sec)
A traditional-method sparkling rhubarb wine produced from 100% Danish-grown Elmsfeuer rhubarb — a variety that thrives in the Nordic climate, where cool nights and long bright days extend the ripening period and develop a distinctive acid profile that no warm-climate rhubarb can match. The must is fermented on the pulp at low temperature, then undergoes a second fermentation in bottle and a minimum of nine months' ageing before release.
Tasting notes: A surprisingly complex bouquet — fresh strawberry, grapefruit and green herbs layered over the rhubarb base. The palate is fresh and delicate, with lemon zest, ginger and forest fruit notes carrying through to a crisp, clean finish. Semi-dry (Sec), with enough residual sweetness to balance the natural rhubarb acidity without tipping into confected territory. Serve at 8–10°C as an aperitif, or alongside summery salads, asparagus, fjord trout, lobster, air-dried ham, tapas and goat cheese.
Awards: Gold — Nordic International Cider Awards 2022 (Bergen). Gold — Ciderworld Frankfurt 2021. Best Sparkling Fruit Wine — Danish Wine Show 2019. Multiple additional medals at the Danish Wine Show (2018–2022) and Gold at the International Food Contest 2018.
