About the product 🥃
Tamdhu 12 Year Old is the distillery’s flagship expression, launched in 2018 to replace the 10 Year Old. It’s a Speyside single malt matured entirely in sherry casks, a combination of first-fill and refill Oloroso casks made from both American and European oak. Tamdhu is one of the few Scottish distilleries to use sherry oak alone, and the bottle’s design nods to the Victorian era. Gold medal at the San Francisco World Spirits Competition 2020. 43% vol, 70cl.
Tasting notes 👃
Cinnamon rolls, cooked orange and sultanas on the nose, with fresh oak and a faint touch of mint. The palate is soft and fruity, with banana, raspberry jam, malty biscuits and toasted oak. The finish is pleasantly long, with ground cinnamon, dried fruit and sweet Scottish tablet, and the merest wisp of peat smoke at the very end. Rich and rounded, but light enough to sip neat.
About Tamdhu 🐾
Tamdhu is a traditional Speyside distillery on the banks of the River Spey, opened in 1897. Its founders secured their first shipment of sherry casks from Spain in 1898, and the sherry-only approach has been part of the distillery’s identity ever since. It is owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, the family-owned Scottish company that also owns Glengoyne and the Smokehead brand, and it is known for expressive, fruity single malts.
