Smokehead 15 Year Old is the oldest and boldest expression in the Smokehead range: a heavily peated Islay single malt, matured for 15 years in bourbon casks and bottled non-chill-filtered at natural colour. It comes from an undisclosed Islay distillery, bottled by Ian Macleod Distillers, and the extra years bring more depth and nuance without losing the brand’s fierce smoke. It has been released as a limited edition. 43% vol, 70cl.

Tasting notes 👃
Bonfire smoke leads, threaded with rosemary and thyme. The peat is lifted by bright citrus and vanilla, and the finish ends on lemon, sea spray and lingering smoke. Retailers also pick up earthy smoke, pickled lemon, sea salt and a creamy vanilla sweetness. The age softens the edges and balances the peat, so it’s more rounded and coastal than the Original, while staying unmistakably Smokehead.

Smokehead is Ian Macleod Distillers’ bold Islay single malt for outliers, who reject the ordinary. The distillery is never named, which is part of the mystery behind the skull on the label. Ian Macleod is an independent Scottish company based in Broxburn. The 15 Year Old is the brand’s first age-statement release and its most outspoken, and it scored 91 points in Whisky Advocate (Spring 2026) after the brand took Double Gold at the 2024 San Francisco World Spirits Competition. Best enjoyed neat, or with a small splash of water to open it up.
