Thornæs Destilleri is an independent Danish distillery based in Kagerup, North Zealand, founded in 2018 by whisky enthusiast Torben Thornæs Andersen. Built on a passion for quality and tradition, the distillery focuses on crafting organic Single Malt whisky using locally grown Danish barley and pure groundwater from the Grib Forest region. Every drop reflects a commitment to Danish raw materials, small-batch production, and time-honoured methods. While their core lies in whisky, the distillery also explores gin and schnapps—each created with the same meticulous care and a spirit of experimentation. Inspired by Scottish craft but rooted firmly in Danish soil, Thornæs Distilleri is shaping a distinct Nordic whisky identity with patience, precision, and purpose.

Thornæs' Chestnut – Double Cask Whisky is a bold and elegant release from the distillery’s Crossroads series. Aged first in 112L chestnut casks and then finished in 200L bourbon barrels, this small-batch whisky delivers deep character and a distinctly Nordic take on the double cask tradition. Limited to just 738 bottles.
Tasting notes
This organic Danish Single Malt opens with dried fruit and soft caramel on the nose. The palate follows with layered notes of apricot, vanilla, toasted nuts, and sweet caramel, rounded off by a long finish with warming spice and a subtle touch of phenols. Rich, smooth, and gently nutty from the chestnut wood.
