Guerin Cognac VSOP

Four years in oak give this VSOP a tawny colour with amber highlights and a lot more depth than its age suggests. Cedar wood comes first on the nose, then lychee and rich hazelnut, slowly moving toward leather and cocoa. On the palate it's fleshy and round, with soft tannins and hints of coconut, cinnamon and vetiver. It's built on the same three-grape blend as the VS, including the uncommon Montils. It works neat, in a classic Sidecar, and surprisingly well with oysters and a squeeze of lemon, which is how the house serves it. The giftbox makes it a strong mid-range pick for retail and corporate gifting.
