About the product π₯
Tamdhu 15 Year Old is the richer, more opulent step up from the 12: a Speyside single malt matured entirely in Oloroso sherry casks from Jerez, Spain, made from both American and European oak. First released in 2019 as a limited edition, it is now part of the core range. Itβs bottled at 46%, non-chill-filtered and at natural colour, and the deep copper hue comes from the casks alone. 46% vol, 70cl.
Tasting notes π
Apple pastry, spiced currants and orange zest on the nose, with exotic touches of pineapple and fennel. The palate is bright and juicy, with ripe apricot and vibrant raspberry, then lemon tart and creamy almonds. The finish is long and rewarding, with warming malt biscuit, cream sherry and vanilla. Opulent but elegant, in an old-school sherry-cask style that is impressively delicate for how heavily sherried it is.
About Tamdhu πΎ
Tamdhu is a traditional Speyside distillery on the banks of the River Spey, opened in 1897. Its founders secured their first shipment of sherry casks from Spain in 1898, and today it matures exclusively in the finest Oloroso sherry casks. It is owned by Ian Macleod Distillers, the family-owned Scottish company that also owns Glengoyne and the Smokehead brand. This one is best enjoyed neat, or in an Old Fashioned: 50 ml with three dashes of Angostura bitters over ice, garnished with orange zest.
