Black Sheep Brewery was founded in 1992 by Paul Theakston in Masham, North Yorkshire, after he left the family business when it was sold to a national brewer. Determined to keep independent brewing alive in his hometown, Paul set up shop in the town’s former maltings, using salvaged equipment and a bold, no-compromise attitude.

Since then, Black Sheep has become a key name in British beer, known for bridging traditional cask brewing with modern craft styles. From their award-winning Best Bitter to hop-forward IPAs and seasonal releases, the brewery has stayed true to its roots while continuing to evolve.
